PRODUCTION NOTES

I began recording these songs on three days in early January 2020 in Nashville, TN. I had half a dozen lyrics, musical starts on 3 or 4 of them, but I intended to bring co-writers in on these songs to give them some life outside of my own. Day 1: TIM LAUER, TONY LUCIDO, and I got together at Blackbird Studio “E” and got to it. I played them what I had on a song we began constructing, deconstructing, reconstructing, etc., and it was a blast. There is nothing like the energy of collaboration, especially when one (me) is lucky enough to have friends like Tim and Tony. They are amazing creators, brilliant musicians, and fabulous people. I could sit in a room all day with them and make music. It’s pure joy. Day 2: We brought KRIS DONEGAN into the mix. Kris has such an intuitive feeling for how the guitar can take its place on a song, and with him in on the process, we knocked out a few more demos. These demos became the foundations for SHAME IS DEAD, HURT PEOPLE, and HONEST HEART off LET THE LIGHT IN, VOL. 1 (LET THE LIGHT IN, VOL. 2 will have a few others from these sessions). The opening track on the EP, POWER, was a song I’d recorded during my “BETTER ANGELS” sessions in 2018. I didn’t quite have my arms around the lyric when this project was released (see production notes in the “POWER” section of my website) but finished the writing on it with KENT AGEE, and it makes a great start to this project. Day 3: The four of us continued to bring home the song ideas I had brought in, and I left town with six demos. I was all set for a weeklong recording session for these songs and others in May of 2020, but the pandemic put that to an end. I kept writing and wrote “THE TRUTH” and other songs during the lockdown, and Tim, my producer, and I decided to start moving the song files around between musicians. Lockdown wouldn’t stop us from making a record. These songs are very personal and a clear look at what I feel and believe. I’ll let them speak for themselves. I hope you enjoy listening to them.
