PRODUCTION NOTES

MY BOY was recorded at OCEAN WAY NASHVILLE RECORDING STUDIOS and BLACKBIRD STUDIOS in April and June of 2018 respectively. This song is essentially a message of fatherly advice to my son, Marco. As of this writing, Marco is straddling the line between boy and man and I wanted to write a song with the essence of what I know in my heart is true about how to live life; be honest, help others, face your fears, accept that much is beyond our control, be kind, trust in the fact that nothing can change how much I love him. I’m so happy with how this song came out. We had a pre-production day in the studio before the full band came in and I played the tune on acoustic for TOM BUKOVAC in the control room. Tom is an incredibly intuitive musician, a deep soul, and a father. He came up with the intro figure and that harmonic which feels like the mixture of edge and innocence that I had expressed I wanted. We then ran through it with VICTOR INDRIZZO on drums and TIM LAUER and BOBBY CAMPBELL on synthesizers and landed on the vibe that the whole band could wrap their arms around the next day in the big room at OCEAN WAY. There we were joined by JERRY MCPHERSON doing what only Jerry can do on electric guitar and TONY LUCIDO on bass in such great measure with Victor. PERRY COLEMAN added his wonderful vocal harmonies. It is such a personal song and I’m so grateful for the energy and care the band took with making it the sincere expression of love that I wanted it to be.
